Dawn & Jay’s beautiful wedding was set in North London, they wed in Hampstead’s Burgh House and had their wedding breakfast at The George in Belsize Park. This was one of the funniest weddings I have had the privilege to photograph. Later there was a Del Boy impersonator at The George Pub.
The day started at The Marriot, Swiss Cottage for the bridal preparations then onto a double decker bus to Burgh House Hampstead. This was the first time I had been to Burgh House, which is situated just off Hampstead High Street, with it’s beautiful wood-panelled rooms it’s an ideal location for a romantic wedding such as Dawn and Jay’s. In the corner of the ceremony room was a beautiful grand piano with a pianist playing Dawn & Jay’s favourite piece of music. On the other side were palms next to the oak panelled windows.
After the ceremony and a few group and portrait shots it was back on the bus for Prosecco and sandwiches. Then a quick tour around Hampstead with a stop off on The Heath next to the old Jack Straw’s Pub, for confetti shots and discreet pictures of the wedding guests Everybody was having so much fun but more fun was yet to come!!
We arrived at The George in Belsize Park, a modern rustic-style pub with wood-panelled walls and fireplaces which offers hearty British dishes but was closed today for Dawn & Jays wedding. The guests relaxed, ate snacks and had drinks. After the wedding breakfast Jay’s two younger brothers gave excellent speeches both claiming to be the younger brother? The real younger brother coming all the way from Australia with his wife and daughter. After the speeches in came Del Boy “Has anyone seen Rodney” he said, the guest fell apart laughing profusely, embarrassingly I have to confess that I did take a couple of wobbly shots due to laughing so much especially when Del Boy placed a rather large condom on Jay’s head! Much joviality pursued for the rest of the evening, Del Boy was trying to sell his dodgy watches to the guests and lots of smiles and fun continued into the early hours of the morning.
Weddings generally take on the vibe that the bride and groom bring to the day. For Dawn and Jay it was fun, fun, fun and laughter all the way. It was a real joy to photograph such a beautiful wedding. To get the opportunity to spend time with two such lovely people and their loved ones was also a real pleasure.
